Parents -
The new school year is upon us, and we want to extend a warm welcome and let you know that Chartwells School Dining Services has some exciting events planned for your child’s school cafeteria. Our job is to make sure that we serve healthy, well-balanced meals, and that our customers enjoy what they eat. We also strive to make the dining experience a special one, so we’ve planned some activities designed to appeal to all of our customers.
As we begin the 2009-2010 school year, Chartwells School Dining Services is pleased to introduce the new Chartbusters program. Chartbusters is a year-long program containing promotion ideas and special event activities developed to maximize cafeteria participation in the National School Breakfast and Lunch program.
This year we have created three separate promotion campaigns to build excitement in the cafeteria for elementary, middle and high school students throughout the school year. These exciting promotions are intended to improve school meal participation and educate your elementary, middle and high school students about the importance of eating healthy and balanced meals. Our fall promotion will focus on Food and Cultures, the winter promotion will focus on Breakfast and the spring promotion will focus on Sustainability.
For elementary grades Theodore Eat, Sydney C. Learn and Ava Live, representatives of nutrition and healthy living, will be guiding students to learn about ‘better for you food choices’ with the help of animated videos, coloring sheets, activity sheets, and a large colorful poster hung in a predominate place for all students to see as they enter the cafeteria.
For our middle and high school customers, we will offer additional activities, posters and videos to promote healthy eating habits and participation in the school breakfast and lunch program as well as our approach to nutrition, Balanced Choices®.
We will provide our young customers with coloring sheets and activity sheets on the district web site which will follow the promotion throughout the school year. The website will also include the monthly menu and the quick link to Café Prepay where you can add money to your child’s account at your convenience. If you want to learn more about Chartwells and nutrition please go to www.eatlearnlive.com.
Our new
meal prices for the 2009-10 School Year:
Meal and Ala Carte Prices for Elementary
Meal and Ala Carte Prices for Middle School
Meal and Ala Carte Prices for High School
We have a wonderful computerized debit system. This system allows you to pay in advance for meals and ala carte foods (milk, juice, chips etc.). All students and adults are required to enter their PIN number regardless of meal status or payment method, thus insuring everyone’s privacy. Although we recommend that all students and adults prepay money on their account for speed of service, students and adults will still be able to pay cash on a daily basis as they have in the past. The system works with a twelve key PIN pad (located near the end of the serving line). It will allow your child to enter their 4 or 5 digit PIN to access their account. Please help your child memorize their number. The PIN will stay the same throughout the remaining years your child is enrolled at the City of St. Charles School District regardless of the school the child is attending. Kindergarten PIN numbers will be mailed to your home before school starts. A list of student names and PIN numbers along with account balances will be available at the orientations held at each school for all students in K-12th grades. To prevent fraudulent use of student accounts, we have a picture of each student currently in the system. As new students enroll and have pictures taken the data base will be updated.
Money will be deducted from an account when the student/adult uses the account to purchase meals and/or ala carte items. The system will know the meal status of your child (Paid, Reduced or Free) and will deduct the correct amount from the account. There is no limit to the amount of money that can be deposited into the account. Low balance letters and negative balance letters will be sent home to elementary students only.
The charge policy is as follows: Up to 3 breakfast and 3 lunch charges for elementary students; 1 breakfast and 1 lunch for Middle School students; no charging for High School students.
All students account balances are held in the system from year to year and school to school. Refunds are made to students graduating or leaving the district. You may contact our office for a refund or to discuss a refund for other reasons. Please log on to www.pay4lunch.com to make payments on line and check the current account balance. You will need their student ID number, which you can get from the school secretary or our office.
Please complete the attached meal application to see if your child qualifies for the Free and Reduced Meal Program. A new application must be completed and turned into your child’s school to continue meal benefits from the previous year. If your child was approved for free or reduced meals at the end of last year they will expire on September 23, 2009.
Please contact me to share any suggestions, concerns or comments.
