Dear City of
St. Charles School District Parents/Guardians:
June 2, 2015
The beginning of the school year is approaching, and we
want to extend a warm welcome to let you know that Chartwells K-12 has exciting
plans for your school meal program. School meals remain nutritious, a great
value, and more satisfying than ever for both students and parents. This year,
Chartwells has exciting events and new menu items planned for your child's
school cafeteria. Our job is to make sure that we serve healthy, well-balanced
meals that students will enjoy eating.
|Low-fat milk is available with all meals. All
8 oz. cartons are $.55
||Elementary: $2.45 / $2.70
Secondary: $2.55 / $2.80 / $3.55 (High School Only)
||$2.95 / $3.20 / $4.00 (High School Only)
We have a computerized debit system called Tyler SIS. All
ending account balances (positive and negative) remain in the accounts of our
system. All students and staff have an 8 digit pin number to enter at the cash
register at each school. Any new students or adults will be given a PIN number
at registration, or may call the food service department for their pin number.
All students and adults are required to enter their PIN number regardless of
meal status or payment method, thus insuring everyone's privacy. Please help
your child memorize their number. The PIN will stay the same throughout the
remaining years your child is enrolled at The City of St. Charles School
District regardless of the school the child is attending. This system allows you
to pay in advance for meals and ala carte foods (milk, juice, chips etc.). A
list of student names and PIN numbers along with account balances will be
available at the orientations held at each school for all students in PK-12th
grades. To prevent fraudulent use of student accounts, we have a picture of each
student currently in the system. We recommend that all students and adults
prepay money on their account for speed of service; however, they will still be
able to pay cash on a daily basis as they have in the past. Beginning July, 1,
2015 please log on to
https://sis.stcharlessd.org/STC/Parent to make payments on line and
check the current account balance.
Money will be deducted from an account when the
student/adult uses the account to purchase meals and/or ala carte items. The
system will know the meal status of your child (Paid, Reduced or Free) and will
deduct the correct amount from the account. There is no limit to the amount of
money that can be deposited into the account. Low balance letters and negative
balance letters will be sent home to elementary students only.
The charge policy is as follows: Up to 3 breakfast and 3
lunch charges for elementary students; 1 breakfast and 1 lunch for secondary
All students account balances are held in the system from
year to year and school to school. Refunds of more than $1.00 are mailed to
students graduating or leaving the district. You may contact our office for a
refund or to discuss a refund for other reasons.
Please complete a meal application to see if your child
qualifies for the Free and Reduced Meal Program. A new application must be
completed and turned into your child's school to continue meal benefits from the
previous year, unless you receive notification that your child has been directly
certified free this school year. If your child was approved for free or reduced
meals at the end of last year they will expire on September 22, 2015. The free
and reduced applications for the SY 2015 16 are available using the links
located above in the Free/Reduced Lunch section.
This year we will be offering some of
student's favorite foods such as our delicious Homemade Pizza, Fresh Variety
Salads, Chicken Nuggets, Nachos, and fresh and local produce.
Throughout the year, students will have the
opportunity to learn about healthier food options through fun and engaging
activities that we have planned in the school cafeteria through our Simply Good
program. Simply Good has a culinary emphasis that focuses on healthier meal
options, especially ones with fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean
proteins. We will feature a variety of themes and fun events that will include a
"Join Us for Lunch Day" that is open to parents and adults of our participating
elementary school students, and other exciting events. Look for more information
on these special events coming soon.
Our mission is to serve nutritious,
well-balanced meals that appeal to our students and school community and we are
committed to providing the best food options and nutrition education for your
child. To learn more about Chartwells, visit our website at
