The City of St. Charles School District will be
hosting meetings to solicit input from the community and from
employees.
Three years ago the district
reorganized, converting from seven elementary schools to
five, and changing the two junior high schools into a
district 5th/6th grade center and a district 7th/8th
grade center. Recent changes in enrollment, especially
in grades K-4, make it necessary for the district to
plan for the future. District enrollment in grades K-4
dropped to 1,867 in 2007-2008 and to 1,808 and
2008-2009, but rebounded to 1,857 in 2009-2010.
Enrollment has also grown during the current school
year, and was 1,886 as of February 1. Based upon the
number of babies born in the area over the past five
years, the District expects elementary school enrollment
to continue to grow for at least the next three years.
Based upon this expectation, the
District must plan for this very real possibility. Many
ideas are still under consideration with regard to how
best to plan for this increase in enrollment. The
District is seeking comments and input from the
community through a series of meetings that will be held
in the coming weeks. Five meetings will be held, one in
each of the elementary buildings, on the following
dates. All meetings will begin at 6:30 PM:
February 8 - Lincoln Elementary
February 9 - Harris Elementary February 17 -
Coverdell Elementary February 18 - Monroe Elementary
February 23 - Null Elementary

Intradistrict Transfer Policy
At the December 10, 2009 Board of
Education meeting, the board approved a revision to Policy JCB
(Intradistrict Transfers). The revision eliminates Intradistrict
Transfers at the high school level. Intradistrict Transfers are still
allowed in grades K-4. High School students previously approved under
the Intradistrict Transfer policy will be allowed to remain in their
current placement, but no new high school transfers will be approved.
